Oh, the Drama!

One night after laying down some fresh licks and singin' me little
heart out, me feels a wee tickle in me throat. So, me eats some
fruity Tootsie Rolls to coat the unpleasantry with orange, cherry,
and lime versions of chewy, filling-tugging confection. Mmm...

The worst is over now. My cold has so far lasted 5 days and my
throat feels pretty good. Good enough to chow down on some
pant-busting turkey and yams (or kim chee, as the case may turn
out to be). At this time, I would like to make a formal apology to
all my Korean friends and lovers (there's only one of those):

I'm very sorry, but I've never liked cabbage in any
incarnation. (Frown... Turns into shaking pout...
Turns into a single salty tear rolling down my left
cheek.)

So, or those of you who love kim chee, hate kim chee, or don't
even know what it is, I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!!

GregSmith

PS: With regard to you "swing voters" on the issue of kim chee...
I shall pray for you. Idk, this is my stop on the 6 train. I had to
type something!

Layin' Down Somethin' Fresh Sure Feels... (Part 2 of 2)

"...like, it's about time, hey Scoob?"  "Right, Raggie!"

It was May '08 and I started to get the urge to get back into the (any)
recording studio to finish my EP.  I had been living in Manhattan and
playing in Brooklyn-based rock band, My Glorious Mess, for 9 months.
And, though you could say, "Hey, nine months! Perfect timing to pop
out a musical baby, right?" it turned out to be only the conception.
Actually, it was more like the re-re-conception as this was my 3rd
attempt in two-and-a-half years at hammering this gashdern thing
home!  Booyah! Or, something like that.

Anyway, it took me until October to finally get in there (Secret Sound
Studio in Middle River, MD).  The first session was a tedious piecing
together of the work I had already completed.  This was necessary
because I had originally been working at another studio using a
different software.

Technicalities aside, I finally laid down NEW MUSIC!!!  It was
Thursday, November 20 and what was originally planned as a 3-hour
"let's-continue-to-put-this-freakin'-puzzle-together" session turned
into an inspired 6-hour "let's-lay-down-some-lush vocals/funky
guitar/chic bass/fancy-schmancy auxiliary percussion" session.

The song title is "Give Me a Reason."  Can't wait to play the finished
product for everyone!!!

Layin' Down Somethin' Fresh Sure Feels... (Part 1 of 2)

Well, frankly, it feels fuckin' amazing!  For those of you who don't
know, don't remember, or are just tuning in, I (the GregSmithGroup)
began recording a 3-song CD (an EP or Extended Play, if you like) way
back in October 2006!  Laid a lil' down that fall and a lil' more still
the following spring.

But, '07 was a year of growth & transition.  Transformation, even!
I had a relationship, took vocal lessons with a great teacher named
Annie Eidolon, played a lil' bass for a friend's band, taught mad guitar
lessons, and worked a bank teller job on top o' that.  9:00AM-8:00PM
(sometimes later)/5 days a week.  I know people work longer and
harder hours, but I'm proud of the time I put in.

If you're reading my multi-part blog "What HAS Been Happening?"
you'll know that I hauled my musical butt off to the original Concrete
Jungle where I hoped to find soil more fertile for my endeavors.  Yes!
How I looked forward that fateful Summer of '07 to sowing the seeds
of musical (and rrromantic) success!

Stayed tuned... More about the EP to follow in Part 2 of "Layin' Down
Somethin' Fresh Sure Feels..."

What HAS Been Happening? [Part 1 of (I'm not sure how many yet)]

Well, it's been such a lonnng time since GregSmith of th'GregSmithGroup has excommunicated with y'all about whatnot... and such. I've been sans paper towels in the bowels of the beast, but at least I can say, "Hey, I covered some ground."

This is the first of what will be an ongoing, semi-consistent, highly-sTyliZed, and highly-hyphenated web-logging extravaganza! And, at recession prices and comic-strip-sized bites, you can't afford to take advantage of this mind-numbing... er, mime-blowing... (omfg)... MIND-blowing experience.

Last anybody really heard, I moved from my hometown of th'Greater Metropolitan Baltimore Area to the Apple-O Grosso, th'Land of Golden Eggs & Honey, Homey! The lil' Dutch cottage across the river on the hill with the American Indian name. The teeny island with a $770 gazillion ROI. Man, oh man, oh Manhattan!

What happens next? Tune back in next week - or whenever the hell I have time to post again.
