One More Hill, Climbed.

Dear Beautiful GSL Blog Readers,
Things are looking up in Greg Smith Land! Mad gigs on the calendar, dope crowds at the shows, and ill musicians in the band. Dig it...
Been doing a lot of good work these past two weeks. I entered my song, "Give Me a Reason," into the R&B category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, I submitted my CD to for a chance to audition for Music Under New York, and I submitted one of my videos in hopes of being cast for the next season of America's Got Talent. Wish me luck! :)
I hope those of you in New York City and its surrounding areas are gearing up to truly throw down THIS FRIDAY, April 2nd! For those of you who are reading this anew: Till this point, there hath been only Greg Smith. Now, there is Group. The Greg Smith Group. For the first time in the history of the world...
The Greg Smith Group... LIVE! at Arlene's Grocery in New York City.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show at Uncle Mike's on Friday night! We're really starting to build a lil' community here. I love it! :) And, thanks to drummer, Chris Benelli, who laid the beat down with perfection and made it an extra special night.
Things are starting to ramp up this year. Got some new photos coming out soon from a shoot I did with photographer Lauren Marsh. Can't wait to share them. Also, very cool t-shirt idea in the works. Will share details as they come in! Also, I'm doing a little studio session work this weekend, about which I'm very excited!
My next performance is a solo spot in The Future Noise LIVE Exhibition. I am the second performer of the night (7:50-8:10PM on 2/25). The event will be at Je'Bon on Saint Marks Place in New York City's East Village. See details below!

3 Dollars, 2 Drumsticks, 1 Kick-Ass Show
Thanks to everyone who came out on Thursday night to Bar East. Really bitchin' show. I'd like to take a moment to welcome what I'll call New York University's "Unofficial Groove Squad" to the Greg Smith Live community. You guys & gals were a blast and it was a pleasure performing for you.
Now, as for the next show on Friday, February 12: BIG. I hired fine New York City drummer, Chris Benelli, to play the set with me. I want to take the show on 2/12 to the next level Help me put the G-R-O-U-P in "Greg Smith Group!"
If everyone donates $3 (three dollars), that will cover the cost to hire Chris Benelli. For those who donate $5 or more, I will send you a personal thank you letter and a link to a complimentary download of my demo, "Introducing... The Greg Smith Group!"

To Arms! Too, Legs! Two Days!

That title might be a stretch, but flexible extremities are part of a healthy lifestyle... wink, wink.
Anyway, just wanted to remind everyone about the show on the Upper East Side on Thursday night. Bring yourself, bring your friends, bring your lovers, but NO CORPORATIONS will be admitted into the club. I don't care what the Supreme Court says. They ain't people. No, siree! There, I said it.
It's gonna be a good time. Lo, a grrrrrrreat time! Grrrr... ;) And, later tonight, I'm heading out to a nearby club called American Trash to promote Thursday's show at their open mic. HO, YEAH! HUT, HUT!
Got a sick idea for t-shirts, too! Look for them around May. "Why, the lad's soaring to greater heights." "Hmm. Yes, Orville, I do believe he is, indeed.
So, dig the show details below and, uh... oh, yeah. Wilbur and Orville implore you to be a dear and share this lil' ol' blog post with your friends! Thanks so much!!!

OMGawd! Another One?!
It's not another ganglion cyst. I just confirmed a show for next Thursday, 1/28 in the Big Apple! - Crunch! - It's on the UES (Upper East Side). See details below. Gonna hit up the open mic at another bar this evening called Paddy Reilly's to promote the show on 1/28.
I'm meeting a lot of cool people this year! Got a meeting with a production team at 3:00PM today. Maybe getting a shot at being on a TV show that might get picked up by VH1. These are possibilities in the Year of New Possibilities. Henceforth, that's what I'll be calling 2010. Just so ya know.
Then, there's the America's Got Talent video, which I'll be submitting soon. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me to fly to Dallas for an in-person audition, but my gratitude goes out to Jonathan P. & fam' for offering to have me stay with them!
More goodies to come in February, including some new videos! So, avoid those in-ear mouse droppings (see previous blog entry) by forwarding/sharing this to/with all your friends!!!
TTYS! Dig show details below... =D

Where Have I Been? Where I Have Been...
Happy New Year! 20 days late, but suck it, it's still January. =) Truth is, my dearly deloved (sue me, Gabe), I have not been well. Well, not terribly unwell. Just a wee bump on me wrist due to overdoing it. No 'unclean' ideas here, please. I'm talking playing guitar, typing (like these fancy newsletters), using smartphones (iPhone v. BlackBerry - let's get a vote!)... That kinda thing. Dig the pic below. Same type o'issue with my voice. That is, overdoing it.
So, with the new year comes a new resolution to play it smart and gradually build up my stamina for these activities so near and dear to my heart. Well, really nearer to my carpel tunnel and vocal cords, but you get the point. I'm already seeing great progress and, before ya know it, I'll be better than ever!
If you're not not already in the game, follow me on Twitter! My url is < www.twitter.com/gregsmithlive >. It's really splendtaculisciouadoshizzle.
Also, did you know that you can forward this share this blog post with your friends. It's pretty much what all cool and anti-cool people alike are doing! And, on top of that, it would most excellent of you to do so. A word of caution: Everytime one of my blog posts goes unshared, the "Why-Are-You-Not-Sharing-Greg's-Blog-Posts-with-Your-Friends? Fairy" leaves mouse droppings in your ear while you sleep.
Love me. I'm very strange.

Know a Lyric (pt 1): "Such a Long Time"
I look up at the dark hazy sky and I know it will soon be blue.
And, the spring that's in the air tonight turns my mind to something new.
No more cold winter blues.
I wanna run in the street with no shoes.
CHORUS
'Cause it's been building up inside of me for such a long time!
'Cause it's been building up inside of me for such a long time!
It feels, oh, like it's been years since I felt the touch of a girl.
And, that's what I wanna feel tonight. One kiss and I'm in another world.
I only want you to stay.
Don't leave! Believe when I say,
CHORUS
That it's been building up inside of me for such a long time!
Yeah, it's been building up inside of me for such a long time!
I won't risk it all and take my time. Can't let your love get away from me.
'Cause I've got a spirit that needs to fly and I need your body to set it free.
Give me a chance. Let it fly!
Love me and don't let it die.
CHORUS
'Cause it's been building up inside of me for such a long time!
Yeah, it's been building up inside of me for such a long time!

Know a Lyric (pt 2): "Apart"
Do you know how it feels to be apart?
Sittin' wonderin' if your baby's thinking about you?
How's my better half living?
I hope she's having fun...
But, not too much fun. Oh, no.
'Cause I'm not having fun.
And, I just want to say to her,
CHORUS
"Girl, you and I weren't meant to have our world torn apart.
And, even though it doesn't feel the same as it did at the start,
You know I believe in you and in you and me.
You and I were never meant to be apart.
SOLO 1
Does this jealousy ever drive you mad?
Do you ever get scared? Maybe she doesn't love you?
Is this the story-line's ending?
Have I seen this one before?
Don't want to wanna watch anymore. Oh, no.
'Cause it don't look like fun.
And, I still want to say to her,
CHORUS
SOLO 2
BREAKDOWN
You and I weren't meant to have our world torn apart.
And, even though it doesn't feel the same as it did at the start...
CHORUS X 2

Know a Lyric (pt 4): "Give Me a Reason"
Hold on to what you've got.
Your future doesn't lie with hers.
Don't give in. Please! Won't you just hold on?
You know where you've got to go.
Give me a reason.
One that's airtight.
A justification for why I should hold you for one more night.
And, tell me slowly
So I'll understand,
So that in a little while I'll be eating from the palm of your hand.
CHORUS
You're gonna give me a reason, baby,
Why I should stay till the morning light.
And, I can't think of a reason to say, "Goodnight."
Can you find a solution?
One that makes sense?
At this stage of the game, I'm not about leaving things up to chance.
You're a pretty girl.
One with sweet kisses, too.
I guess we just get along too well and I've got other things that I need to do.
CHORUS x 2
ORGAN SOLO
BREAKDOWN
Sometimes, I think that I love you,
But I just can't be sure.
I tell you, I'll end this all right now if you just change the locks on your door.
CHORUS x 2
You're gonna give me! How, you're gonna give me!
CHORUS
